Bio

Fascinated by electrics/electronics since childhood, I was destined for a career in technology. After more than two decades my passion is two-pronged as as I 1) leverage a mature technology team to pursue the application of technology to accommodate and enhance business needs and solutions, and 2) grow the information and cybersecurity practice into one befitting enterprise class.

Richard "rk" Borden is the Vice President of IT at his new home of Blackhawk Community Credit Union. BHCCU is a state-chartered credit union based in Janesville, Wisconsin, originally formed to serve the General Motors Fisher Body plant. With the SEG gone, it is now fully community-based with 11 branches, including two in-school locations. Starting in January of 2013 Richard brings 20+ years of IT experience with him, having spent the last 14 years at Heritage CU in Madison. He oversees a mature and complex computing environment and a dynamic staff of seven, listening and looking for ways to streamline and simplify infrastructure and operations with an eye to building for the future, all to better serve internal customers and credit union members.

I have had the privilege of serving on a technology and technical education advisory committee, have participated in CUNA speaking and educational engagements and currently serve on the planning committee of a regional software user’s group (SMUG Board) committed to improving and sharing technology for the credit union community. Cybersecurity is a fascinating and growing field and I currently chair the cybersecurity committee at my place of work as I grow my expertise through my membership in ISACA and prep for the CISM certification (test passed and application pending).

In non-professional roles I also enjoy volunteering for speaking and teaching engagements as well as building projects designed to improve my own skills and more importantly improve the lives of others.
