Communication matters in business. The ability to get your message across in a powerful way and to make a connection with others is key to business and leadership success. While there is controversy over the topic of gender differences in communication, overall the data and everyday observations show that the different ways women and men communicate are real and can have a significant impact on women's success.

There are many ways women continue to have challenges in achieving the highest levels of leadership, despite their talents and capabilities. While organizations need to continue to address systemic issues in gender discrimination and bias, there are things that individual women leaders can do to be more effective.

In this workshop, we will explore the ways women are given mixed messages about how to communicate and held to different standards. We will also discuss what power individual women have to leverage their unique strengths and communication styles to become more effective leaders.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Women will understand better the gender stereotypes they face in communicating powerfully rather than to view challenges as reflections of individual flaws.
  2. Women will learn some key techniques for setting boundaries, successfully negotiating, effectively managing conflict, and handling unrealistic expectations of others (e.g., that one must always be "nice").
  3. Women will walk away with better strategies for understanding and leveraging their unique strengths rather than approach powerful communication as a one-size fits all proposition.
