Board Succession/Preparation

    Good Day!

Board Succession is becoming more of an immediate need for our organization as we have a number of board members who are older and are indicating a desire to vacate their seats when their terms expire.  As a result, we have started discussing how we more proactively address this issue so we can assure continuity in the future.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has a formalized plan for recruiting new board members.  If so, how do you go about it?  Additionally, I've heard some credit unions have people in waiting, so to speak, to come on the board when vacancies occur.  Does anyone out there have this type of arrangement?  If so, what kind of recruitment, training, etc. is done?  Do they attend board meetings and just not vote?

Any insight to these issues would be appreciated.

Thanks much and have a wonderful day!

We have a fairly successful program we call Volunteer Associate that we have successfully  "promoted " them to the supervisory and board. It servfes as a good training program for new volunteers without the responsibility and a time to see if they are a good fit for the credit union board or supervisory committee.  Policy is attached

    Hi Jenny,

We have a very robust process to recruit Volunteers that I would be happy to share with you.  Would it be helpful to schedule a call to discuss?
