We have development plans for our different job titles. Within most jobs we have levels. For example MSR I through IV. As they complete their learning plan they are promoted to the next level and are given a salary increase. This helps alleviate the feeling of stagnation. CUES used to sell a development/succession planning process (it was an online program) with exhibits and a process I found VERY useful at my last CU. I don't have access to it anymore but if CUES could point you to a replacement, it might be worth a look.

What a great memory you have, Chris! That 2007 whitepaper was called "Succession Planning Essentials." I'm attaching a copy from the archive. It looks like it has some evergreen items (see appendix) that would still be quite useful today, although I caution everyone that it won't reflect new thinking in the field of succession planning. (DDJ Myers is CUES' partner for succession planning.)
