Lobby Re-openings

    Hello,
As we continue to work through business resumption anticipating a slow reopening, I would like to know what some of you are doing or plan to do to help ensure employee and member safety since we do not have a vaccine for COVID-19.

In particular, are you currently or planning to:

    • Require members to wear masks?
      • Require it of employees as well?
    • Take employee and/or member temperature, and if so, what is the temperature for which you will send them home or refuse in-person service?
    • Have you modified Lobby Kiosk / Online Appointment setting questions to include questions regarding COVID-19, and if so, what questions did you ask that if affirmative causes a refusal of in-person service?

We have added germ shields as I believe most of us have. We also have measured out the 6FT distance and added floor decals. Additionally, we are working with our security vendors to see if we can change our doors to a buzz in entry system.

Right now, we only allow one member in the branch at a time, and we try to our best to serve them through other channels. I am looking forward to hearing what you all are planning as we hope to soon allow greater access to our lobbies.

Thank you in advance for sharing your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Good afternoon!

We are re-opening our lobbies tomorrow morning. (Our drive up lanes have remained open.) We installed bullet-resistant glass at our teller windows and new accounts area years ago, and never imagined how handy it would be in protecting our team from a global pandemic! Our Loan Department will be remained closed to member traffic for now, but will continue to assist members from behind glass at the new accounts area.

Our staff has chosen to wear masks, and we will be strongly urging our members to do the same. We purchased a limited supply of disposable masks to give to members who need them and will be directing members who choose not to wear a mask to conduct their business at our drive up. We also ordered washable masks for our team.

We will continue to assess our team members' health when they arrive in the morning with a temperature check and monitor them for symptoms throughout the day.

We have a schedule of items that are disinfected multiple times throughout the day, including door handles, common areas...even the ATM. There is hand sanitizer everywhere you look, and signs to remind our team to wash their hands and wear their masks. Depending upon which can of disinfectant the team chooses, our lobby sometimes smells like bleach and other times, smells like spring flowers or fresh laundry. Our lobby has never been this clean in the history of the Credit Union!

We have implemented social distancing by rearranging our lobbies, closing every other teller window, installing markers on the floor 6 feet apart, and limiting the number of members that can enter. We will have team members at the door to ensure the Governor's mandates and best practices are followed.

Hope this helps. Stay safe and healthy!

    Paula,

Thank you so very much for your response. I hope your lobby re-openings today went well for you, your team and members. It certainly sounds like you had a heads start by already having bullet-resistant glass in place.

Thank you for the comment about rearranging your lobbies. I certainly think this warrants consideration at our branches as well.

Enjoy your weekend and stay healthy and safe too!

    Kindest Regards,

Does anyone have concerns about allowing members to wear masks when coming into the branch for security reasons?  I have never been to security training where they said to allow someone to wear a mask as it should be removed.  Allowing masks will make it easier for robbers, that is for sure.

    Michael,

This certainly is a concern. I checked with our bond provider just to make sure there were not going to be an issue with coverage.  I was told for us there would not be issues from that stand point.  It does cause a security concern but in my opinion does not trump the health concern.  We are not planning on asking members to remove there masks and are encouraging them to wear them.  The other issue will be member identification so tellers will be required to ask additional questions similar to our phone center.

    Good Afternoon Jason,

I agree with the heightened risk being the health concerns and since so many of our Branch Ops team members have shifted over to call center responsibilities during lobby closures, they have become well versed with additional member verification including out-of-wallet questions. Thank you for your response. Are you by planning to take member and employee temperatures? Most businesses seem to support the use of masks, social distancing and germ protective measures, while it seems a much small group is extending their resumption measures to include taking temperatures of members and employees.

We're almost concerned more about the masks encouraging robbers than we are the virus itself. Having sufficient staff at each office to screen before allowing them in and having the technology to even do that out in the foyer both are problems. When the employee asks the robber for ID or tells him/her that they're not a member and can't come in is when they're going to pull the gun, grab the employee and come in anyway knowing all the pictures in the world likely won't identify them with their mask and ball cap on.
