    Hello CUES Members,

I'd like to take a few moments to open an introduction thread. We've all been using CUESNet for just about 6 months (Already?! Time files!). This community has been super active and I love reading your threads with questions and seeing your responses! People helping people, that's what it's all about!!

Let's have a little bit of fun and share some fun facts about ourselves. I'll rip the band-aid off first to get the ball rolling!

I was born and raised in Southern California, moved to the Phoenix area in my mid-twenties, and now have found myself in the cold state of Wisconsin. Even though I freeze for more than half of the year here in Wisconsin, I just love the snow - it's much prettier than the dirt I am used to - but I miss the mountains!
A fun fact about me is that I can wiggle my ears - a trait I've inherited from my Grandpa!

I look forward to learning more about you and your fun facts!

Hi Laura and fellow CUES members,

My story is too long to start as far back as Laura, so here goes. I live just outside of North Bay, Ontario, Canada in a Village called Astorville, which is about 300Kms (180 miles) north of Toronto. I am a retired police officer and presently a Permanent Deacon in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pembroke. I am in my 8th year as a director on Northern Credit Union's Board and just stepped down as Chair after 5 years. We have a five year term limit for Chair and four - three year terms as a director.
Something unique about me is that I have been refereeing ice hockey for 50 years, and if I get into the year 2020 I will have officiated in 7 decades.

I look forward to learning more about fellow CUES members, as well. Take care!!!

@Tim Foster WOW! 7 decades is an amazing accomplishment :) You'll have to keep us in the loop on when you reach that!

@Christine Petro HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS!!! I love that your parents made the fireworks about you, how special is that?! Must have been a magical birthday every year :)

I'm in!  Here's something (timely) about me.  My birthday is the 4th of July.  My dad was in the Air Force and we always went to the Base for fireworks.   My parents told me they were for me and I believed it for years.   Hope everyone had a lovely Independence Day!

    Hello everyone!

I was born in Jacksonville, Florida and spent most of my childhood there. When I was older, our family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana which is where I still currently reside. A little fun fact about me, I am a musician in my spare time (mainly as just a hobby these days). I have played guitar for 18 years, been singing for 23 years, and have played drums for the last 4 years.

    Have a great weekend!

    Hi, Laura and everyone!

I was born in Southern California, but mostly raised in Missouri. I'm enjoying life in Colorado, now, and hope that this is the place we stay for the rest of our lives. I love the town of Loveland. So many great coffee places and we are an "artist town". I am only marginally artistic myself, but so enjoy others' works, and have so many opportunities here to support the arts.

Something interesting about me is that I moved at least 9 times growing up, and I've lived in 5 different towns/cities since I got married at just 18. Nope, my husband, my dad, nor I have been military. My husband was in full-time ministry for about 20 years, and my dad had lots of kids, only 2 years of post-secondary education, and (I think) ADHD-so he changed jobs a lot! :)

    I enjoy singing, writing, and binge-watching Netflix (especially sci-fi - I'm a big nerd!).

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here on CUES.

    Hello All,

I currently live in the same small town of Howards Grove, Wisconsin where I was born and raised.  My husband and I love to travel anywhere we can and as often as possible. Currently Italy is our favorite place we have traveled to.  We have two cats, Derby and Dice, who have their run of the house most days.

Something interesting about me is that I love to make homemade wine and sharing with others.  I am still looking for a way to use my love of wine making as a way to do good in our communities.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

    Hello, CUES Netters!

One of my New Year's resolutions is to get more active on CUESNet, so I've returned to this "introduce yourself" thread to do just that! (Join me? Introduce yourself simply by hitting reply ... )

Although I spent many years in Wisconsin, I now live in (and telecommute from) Honeoye Falls, NY--near Rochester, in the western part of the state and just an hour and a half from Niagara Falls and the Canadian border. I've been writing about credit unions since 1994 and have been an editor for CUES' CU Management magazine for more than 20 of those years! I love credit unions! Sometimes I'll ask this community for help in developing a story idea or finding a source to interview about a particular topic. Thanks in advance for your help with that.

Some of you may remember me as the guide when CUESNet was a listserv. I'm really pleased about this web-based version--it's an even better way to network!

Fun facts? Here's three: I studied flamenco dance in Spain. My favorite sport besides dancing is snowshoeing. And I love to put wax seals on my personal correspondence, even though that typically means I burn my fingers doing it!

OK, your turn. Please introduce yourself to the group, maybe share a few fun facts or your professional new year's resolution. I look forward to connecting with you!

    Warm regards,

    Lisa Hochgraf

    Hi CUES members!

I just joined the membership team at CUES in early January and have been busy learning about the services and benefit available to members.  Seeing the discussions here on CUESNet and checking out the materials available in the Community Library have helped me get some insights about the credit union movement and what's going on with members.  I'm really looking forward to more interactions.

Here's a mini bio so you'll know a little about me – I was born in Boston, spent some time in Ann Arbor, Morocco and Germany when I when was very young.  (I went to preschool in Germany so maybe if I were hypnotized my German language skills would come back to me – haha). My parents settled down in Stevens Point, Wisconsin which is where I grew up.  When I was younger and thinner I studied dance seriously and was a dance major in college at SUNY Purchase outside New York City.  I met my husband there (he was a film major) and we lived in Brooklyn where he grew up for about a decade before moving to Madison, Wisconsin.  Back in the Midwest, I spent over 20 years working in the membership department of a trade association.

We have two kids – college freshman daughter and high school sophomore son.  Our dog Remy is a small, tightly wound but snuggly terrier mix. I write about dance for a local weekly newspaper, do some freelance blogging about employee engagement and also sell "treasures" on Poshmark.  My husband works for the Wisconsin Film Festival so we see a lot of movies!

Here's my fun fact – I got to meet Princess Diana when I worked in the customer service dept. of FAO Schwarz in NYC. Unfortunately I was dressed up like Betty Boop at the time.  She was even more lovely in person than in photos.

I'm curious to learn some fun facts about you guys and maybe also the best movie that you've seen recently!  I just saw Knives Out and loved the twists and turns, plus it's such a fun cast.

My colleague, Lisa Hochgraf, recently inquired about professional New Year's resolutions.  I came across a quote today in a Forbes article on trust and leadership in the CUES Learning Portal that seemed like a good (but tardy) resolution for me because I have recently transitioned from being the person at a job with lots of answers to the new person at a job with all the questions!:  "The humble and teachable person keeps learning new ways of doing things and stays current on ideas and trends." So, my 2020 resolution is to be teachable and stay humble.

    Best regards,
