    I have had a couple of really thought provoking conversations about how telecommuting/flexible work schedules can provide a competitive advantage for credit unions in acquiring talent and retaining talent.  Seems different industries are adapting to this trend differently especially as top talent is looking for this as an employee benefit and key differentiatior.

    I'm curious, how does your credit union look at telecommuting/remote workers and what impact has it has on employee engagement, organizational agility and production?

    I would be very interested if anyone shares a telecommuting policy - we have been looking at options but would rather not start from scratch.

    ​I would also be interested in learning about what everyone is doing in relation to flexible scheduling (base level coverages in various areas/ departments) and telecommuting as well. We have experimented here with telecomuting when people relocate to new areas but have had other requests. We are trying to determine the "who"  and "why" as far as allowing more of this. I am sure there will be more and more requests in the future so want to get some good informaiton to aid in decision making. Thanks to all.

    We have about 23 people that work from home. We have guidelines that are in place to help us determine who is a good candidate for this.

    Good morning Russell!   IHMVCU has several examples of very successful telecommuting positions mostly centered in, but not limited to, our IT areas.   One of the challenges of not being located in a large metropolitan area is acquiring talent with the necessary ​skill sets to drive strategies forward.   By putting the necessary channels in place to successfully have someone work remotely, you open up your universe of candidates significantly.    Plus, they bring a new set of eyes on the organization that you might not get locally.   We have found the key is to keep them engaged, to require "some" degree of onsite time and to be sure that the channels for them to work are solid and reliable.  While most of our experience has been in the IT realm, there are many other areas in the CU that can benefit from the diversity that telecommuting provides. It's been a positive for us in engagement, agility and production.

    Telecommuting is something new we are implementing just within the last week.  We have a total of 4 employees in the program.  The Supervisor's identified key positions/employees that could succeed in this environment and then they offered it to the employees.  We have 1 - accounting, 1 - mortgage,  and 2 - collection positions taking advantage of the program.  We are excited and optimistic this will grow into more positions being available for the program to not only stay competitive but to also assist with work/life balance.
